The youngest driver on the Formula Two grid, Tom was offered an official scholarship drive for the 2007 Formula BMW UK Championship. In his first full season of racing Tom finished sixth in the rookie championship.
Determined to gain as much experience as possible, Tom combined racing in the UK with a few races in both the Asian and ADAC Formula BMW championships, before competing in the World Final at the end of the year.
In 2008 Tom moved across the Atlantic to race in the American Star Mazda series. Again the youngest driver on the grid, Tom scored a victory and a second position at Portland. Despite not competing at Watkins Glen - due to being too young to race - a series of top five results followed, helping Tom to take sixth in the final championship standings.
